Here's just a little bit of information about Mrs. Heath:
Hello and Welcome to the Best Math Class Ever!
I have been teaching at Saline Middle School since 1990 (wow - that means this is my 28th year here at SMS!). I have taught General Math, Connected Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1A, and Algebra 1 in both the 7th and 8th grades here at the middle school. Before teaching in Saline, I was a high school math teacher for five years in Grosse Ile, Michigan where I taught Basic Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus. I earned my teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree with a Mathematics major and a Physical Education minor. While at EMU, I played softball for four years and field hockey for one year. I also completed my post-grad work at EMU, earning a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education. I have continued to remain current in the field of education by attending conferences, reading professional blogs and books, and sharing with and learning from my SMS colleagues.
This past summer, my husband and I celebrated our 31st wedding anniversary! We live in the great town of Milan, Michigan (which happens to be the town in which we both grew up). We have two terrific daughters and two terrific son-in-laws. Our oldest daughter is a high school history teacher in Indianapolis and her husband is a "computer guy" and works for Cummins Engine. Our youngest daughter graduated with a finance degree and works for the J.M. Smucker Company and her husband is also a finance major and works for a small company in Akron, Ohio. My husband and I absolutely love spending time with our family.
I also enjoy all kinds of sports. In my free time I jump on my bike, play golf, hike, downhill ski, cross-country ski, and read.
This summer my husband and I enjoyed our lovely state of Michigan. We visited Traverse City, Glen Arbor, Glen Haven, and Empire. We did a lot of biking and golfing and enjoyed the beaches and fun towns along Lake Michigan. We were also fortunate enough to be able to head out west where we did a lot of hiking at Arches National Park in Utah and also at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Our entire family landed some tickets to see the play "Hamilton" in Cleveland where we also were able to catch a Cleveland Indians baseball game. Finally, for the past four summers, I have volunteered to serve as a counselor for a week at Royal Family Kids Camp.
I love teaching and I am looking forward to working with each and every one of you.
