A Great Adventure!
Welcome to my Future Focused Classroom. Every year is a new adventure! My vision and plan continues to develop and change every year as I build on my past experiences and learn new and exciting ways technology can enhance education. I'm excited about leading my students on this great adventure. I am also looking forward to learning from my students. Together we can make this a successful year! Going Above and Beyond: We are privileged to be in a Future Focused Classroom. What does this mean? It means access to technology, focus on the "4 C's" (creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking), a non-traditional classroom arrangement, and more student choice. What else does this mean? It means more responsibility. Each student will learn to be responsible for his or her academic success. He or she will be guided to make wise choices, not only in the area of proper technology use, but also in the area of academic growth. |
Digital Tools:
I have approximately 17 Chromebooks for students to use/share during class this year. If a student has his or her own tablet or laptop and feels comfortable bringing it to school, I would recommend doing so. We will definitely be using the devices. Standards Based Grading: 1. Extra Practice - It is extremely important for students to complete all the assignments. Often times, the new, current concept builds off of previous concepts, so it is important that work is completed in a timely manner. We will score assignments almost daily. Grades will be based on accuracy. Scores will not be reported in PowerSchool. However, both student and teacher will track the scores. They will serve as a reference in determining the overall understanding of the material. 2. Quick Check - Think of a quick check as a mini quiz. In class, I will assess students on the standards and we will discuss the areas of strength and the areas that need improvement. Scores will not be reported in PowerSchool, but will be tracked by both student and teacher. Students will use the scores from the extra practice and quick checks as a way to monitor their progress and understanding. 3. Assessments - Tests will be given each unit to measure progress and understanding. Students are expected to prepare thoroughly for each unit assessment. Tests will be scored by standard. There will not be an overall percentage for the test, but there will be a percentage given for each standard tested. These are the scores that will be reported in PowerSchool. Students may re-take the portion(s) of the test they scored poorly on. Complete replacement of the score will occur with a re-take. Also, an exam will be given at the end of each trimester. An overall percent will be given for each exam and students will not be able to re-take the exams nor any portion of the exams. 4. 4C's - Periodically, students will be required to complete projects and/or participate in problem solving/STEM activities. Assessment will be based on communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and/or reflection. Rubrics and/or requirements and expectations will be discussed and explained and students may possibly see these scores in Powerschool. |
